Ferrosilicon Ferrosilicon: Ferrosilicon is made from coke, steel filings, quartz (or silica) as raw materials and smelted in a mineral furnace. Silicon and oxygen easily synthesize silicon dioxide. Therefore, ferrosilicon is often used as a deoxidizer in steelmaking. At the same time, due to the release of a large amount of heat when SiO2 is generated, it is also beneficial to raise the temperature of molten steel while deoxidizing. Ferrosilicon is added as an alloying element. Widely used in low-alloy structural steel, combined steel, spring steel, bearing steel, heat-resistant steel and electrical silicon steel. Ferrosilicon is often used as a reducing agent in ferroalloy production and chemical industry. Silicon content reaches 95% -99%. Pure silicon is commonly used to make single crystal silicon or to formulate nonferrous metal alloys.
Application: Ferrosilicon is widely used in steel industry, foundry industry and other industrial production.
Ferrosilicon is an essential deoxidizer in the steelmaking industry. In steelmaking, ferrosilicon is used for precipitation and diffusion deoxidation. Brick iron is also used as an alloying agent in steelmaking. Adding a certain amount of silicon to the steel can significantly improve the strength, hardness and elasticity of the steel, increase the magnetic permeability of the steel, and reduce the hysteresis loss of the transformer steel. Silicon in general steel contains 0.15% -0.35%, structural steel contains silicon 0.40% to 1.75%, tool steel contains silicon 0.30% to 1.80%, spring steel contains silicon 0.40% to 2.80%, and stainless acid-resistant steel Silicon 3.40% to 4.00%, heat-resistant steel contains silicon 1.00% to 3.00%, silicon steel contains silicon 2% to 3% or higher. In the steelmaking industry, about 3 to 5 kg of 75% ferrosilicon are consumed for each ton of steel produced.
